Our clinical practice and policies align with the statutes, rules and licensing boards of the State of North Carolina.

1. Compliance With North Carolina Professional Licensure & Regulation

Our clinicians follow all licensure, supervision and scope-of-practice requirements set by the relevant North Carolina licensing boards:

North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (NCBLCMHC)

2. Mandatory Reporting & Confidentiality Compliance (North Carolina)

We adhere to North Carolina laws regarding mandatory reporting and the limits of confidentiality, including but not limited to:
  • Child abuse or neglect
  • Abuse of vulnerable adults
  • Imminent risk of harm to self or others (“duty to warn/protect”)
  • Any other legal exceptions to confidentiality mandated by North Carolina statute
Clients are informed of these legal limits of confidentiality during intake and via our disclosures.

3. Client Rights & Professional Disclosure Statement

In compliance with North Carolina regulations, each client receives a clear Professional Disclosure Statement before services begin, which includes:
  • The clinician’s name, credentials, license number, and supervision status
  • The therapeutic approach, methods, and any supervision requirements
  • Fee schedule, billing and cancellation/no-show policy
  • Confidentiality and its exceptions
  • Client rights and how to file a grievance or complaint — including contact information for the relevant licensing board
  • License verification instructions
Clients are encouraged to verify the clinician’s license, for example via the NCBLCMHC’s “Verify a License” tool.

4. Telehealth Compliance (North Carolina)

When providing telehealth services to clients located in North Carolina, we ensure:
  • The provider is licensed (or otherwise authorized) in North Carolina
  • The client is located physically in North Carolina at the time of service (if required by NY law; you should check the specific statute)
  • Use of secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms
  • Disclosure of telehealth risks, benefits, alternatives, and data/storage procedures
  • Compliance with North Carolina statutes and board rules regarding distance counseling/teletherapy

5. HIPAA & North Carolina-Specific Privacy Protections

We maintain confidentiality and data security under:
  • The federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • 42 CFR Part 2 where applicable (such as for substance use disorder treatment)
  • North Carolina statutes and regulations regarding mental-health records and privacy
All electronic protected health information (ePHI) is stored, transmitted, and accessed securely in compliance with federal and North Carolina-state requirements.
