Compare coverage types, session lengths, costs, and how to transition between them
ReachLink accepts both Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits and commercial insurance. Understanding the differences helps you make the most of your coverage.
What is an EAP?
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a workplace benefit that provides:
- Therapy and counseling services
- Coverage through your employer
- Services from EAP-specific networks
Key Differences
EAP Benefits
Features:
- ✅ Completely covered (zero copay)
- ✅ Specific number of authorized sessions (typically 3-8)
- ✅ Pre-authorized by your employer
Limitations:
- Sessions are 45 minutes long
- Limited number of sessions per year
- Benefits expire on specific dates
- Cannot schedule beyond expiration date
- No late cancellation fees, but violations may result in termination
Commercial Insurance
Features:
- Full 60-minute sessions
- More sessions available throughout the year
- Larger provider network
- Can continue care without interruption
Costs:
- Subject to your plan's copay
- May have deductible requirements
- $30 late cancellation fee applies
How ReachLink Handles Both
Using Your Benefits
- EAP clients receive their authorized sessions first
- Before EAP sessions end, Care Team discusses options
- Can transition to commercial insurance if available
- Seamless continuation with same provider possible
The Transition Process
- Care Team verifies commercial insurance early
- Automatic switch occurs after completing EAP sessions
- If no commercial insurance, switches to self-pay (Prices available upon request)
Making the Smart Choice
Benefits of Switching Early
If your commercial copay is very low or zero:
- Access to larger provider network

- Standard appointment policies apply
- No expiration dates on benefits
Session Length Comparison
